A trek up Indonesia's second-highest volcano: from Sembalun to the crater rim above Segara Anak lake, a summit climb for sunrise, a night by the lake and its hot springs, and the descent to Senaru. The guide speaks English.

Difficulty

A demanding multi-day trek up to 3,726 m with nights in tents. You need good fitness; we confirm current trail conditions before booking.

Day-by-day programme

1. Day 1

   Arrival on Lombok and Sembalun

   After your flight or boat, transfer to Sembalun village and your accommodation before the trek.

2. Day 2

   Up to the crater rim

   An early start, registration at the national park and the climb across the savanna (around 1,200 m) to the Plawangan Sembalun crater rim (2,639 m) overlooking Segara Anak lake. Arrival between 3.30 and 5 pm, night in a tent.

3. Day 3

   Summit and lake

   A night climb to the summit (3,726 m) for sunrise on steep sandy, stony slopes – the hardest part of the trek. After breakfast, the descent to Segara Anak lake, hot springs and a night by the lake.

4. Day 4

   Down to Senaru

   One last mountain sunrise, the descent to Senaru village and a transfer to a hotel on Lombok.

5. Day 5

   Leaving Lombok

   After breakfast, transfer to the airport or port. We're happy to extend your stay on Lombok.
