Java

Java brings a different side of Indonesia to an island holiday. Explore Yogyakarta and the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, or build your journey around the volcanoes of the east.

Yogyakarta and the temple sites

Yogyakarta is a useful starting point for a cultural stay. Leave time for local food and crafts in the city, then explore Borobudur and Prambanan in the wider region. Buddhist Borobudur and Hindu Prambanan are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Give each enough time to enjoy more than a quick photo stop.

Bromo: a landscape worth an early start

East Java offers striking volcanic scenery. Bromo draws visitors for views of its craters and the surrounding landscape. If sunrise is your priority, make it the focus of the day and allow time to explore the area around the volcano too.

Ijen and the connection with Bali

The Ijen area can form part of an independent East Java trip or be combined with Bali. Choose a mountain itinerary that suits what you want to experience and how you like to travel. The exact route and access depend on the operator's current arrangements and conditions.

One region or a longer journey?

A cultural stay around Yogyakarta and a journey through East Java's volcanoes offer two distinct ways to explore. Choose one or connect them as part of a longer trip. Our current selection includes tours from Bali to Ijen and a Bromo–Ijen combination. Pick a length that fits comfortably into your holiday.
