Melukat — Water Purification Ceremony

The Balinese ritual of cleansing with water

Water, breath and a moment devoted to your own intention. Melukat is a chance to step into a Balinese tradition with a guide who explains its meaning and how it unfolds. We prepare the specific place and the rite with our local partner.

How it unfolds

  1. 01

    Preparing for the rite

Your guide explains the meaning of melukat and its steps. You receive a sarong and the prepared offerings.

  2. 02

    Cleansing with water

The cleansing itself takes place in the water, led by our local partner. You go at your own pace and your guide stays close the whole time.

  3. 03

    Time after the ceremony

After the rite you change into dry clothes and have time to settle before we head back.

Who it is for

For anyone who wants to experience melukat with understanding, not just photograph it. Places of water purification are usually open to the public, so others may be present; what is private is your programme and your guide.

Water purification is part of our Brána retreat.
