Voice of the Ancestors

Gunung Kawi with a guided meditation

Steps lead you down to shrines carved into the rock. Voice of the Ancestors invites you to slow down and attend to where you come from and what you want to carry forward. Get to know this place with a guide and allow yourself a while in silence that you don't need to fill with the next plan straight away.

How it unfolds

  1. 01

Enter the story of the place

Gunung Kawi is one of Bali's oldest monuments: shrines carved into a rock face in the valley of the Pakerisan river. On the way down, your guide explains what you are looking at and why the place is still alive for the Balinese today.

  2. 02

    Stay in silence

At an agreed spot, a guided meditation awaits. It isn't about achieving anything – just sitting, breathing and letting your thoughts slow down.

  3. 03

    Name the next step

To close, there is time to name what you take away: where you come from and what you want to carry forward.

Who it is for

For anyone who wants to experience the temple slowly and with an explanation, not as a quick stop. Gunung Kawi is open to the public, so you will meet other visitors. Our part is the personal guidance, the choice of time and a quiet spot for the meditation.

Voice of the Ancestors is the name of a meditation from our Hlbina retreat.
